Orange Park is just south of Jacksonville and west of the St Johns River. Orange Park really has everything you need when it comes to shopping. The Orange Park Mall, Target, Home Depot, lots of restaurants to eat at like La Nopalera, Chili’s, Woody’s BBQ, Hooters, Cici’s Pizza and many more. Easy access to I295, which will take you to pretty much any part of Jacksonville you want to get to. If the beach is where you want to spend the day, Orange Park is about a 35 min drive to Jax Beach. St Augustine is probably about a 45 min drive, depending on where you’re coming from in Orange Park.
History of Orange Park
With the name Orange Park, you expect to see alot of oranges, but unfortunately there was a Great Freeze of 1894-1895 and the orange trees never came back. A pretty interesting fact is how Orange Park was home to Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center from 1930 to 1965. What’s funny was how the Orange Park residents nicknames the center the Monkey Farm and joked how the center crossed bred monkeys and humans together. I can’t say I’ve come across any of those, that I know of. To read up on more history of Orange Park , click these links. I mean it, go ahead and click them, I’m not monkeying around. Haha. I know, that was corny. 🙂
