Things To Do in Mandarin
There multiple parks to enjoy. You have Mandarin Park which is by Julington Creek and the St Johns River. There’s a boat ramp and a kayak launch. Enjoy trails, a pond and a playground. Walter Jones Historical Park has a dock to walk on to enjoy the views of the St Johns River. You can also see the Buckman Bridge from there. Launch a boat or kayak as well.
While there, you will notice some painted very colorful frogs. A local man started making these as a hobby and they gained in popularity, because they are so cool. He is known as the Mandarin Frog Man. Only a few know his true identity. You can even purchase them at the Walter Jones Historical Park, which he does not collect the money, the funds go to WJ projects.
Shopping in Mandarin
Mandarin is close to everything you need. Target, Walmart Super Center, Publix, just to name the big names. If you’re a geek like me, you absolutely have to check out Mythical Mountain at the Riverplace Shopping center off of San Jose. Action figures from Marvel, Star Wars and more. I don’t want to tell you too much, because you need to go check it out in person. We found it by chance and probably spent a good hour looking at everything. Another one of a kind store is World Market. You can find food, wine, clothing, furniture and everything in between from different countries. Across the street is Barnes and Noble for the book lovers out there.
Where to eat in Mandarin
Can we ever not mention food? Nope! A couple of my favorites are One Night Taco Stand and Jumpin Jax House of Food. So, what a cool name for a taco stand. Makes me chuckle when I see the name. Lots of tasty options for tacos, that you just can’t get everywhere. Jumpin Jax has amazing burgers, and I love me some burgers, but you can get many different American cuisine here. Here’s a local website that offers reviews on the various restaurants, and they break them down by areas. It’s called Jacksonville Restaurant Reviews. Here’s the Mandarin list of places to eat. If you want to see what the locals recommend, check out the The Scoop with Jax Restaurant Reviews.

Google maps wants to show Mandarin as only being in the 32223 zip code, but Mandarin is larger than that. 32257 and part of 32258. Loretto, Pickwick Park, Mandarin Station are all part of Mandarin.
