Fleming Island is in Clay County Florida, right to the west of the St Johns River. Surrounded by multiply bodies of water, if you enjoy being on 
the water or just being able to take a lunch next to the St Johns River, Black Creek or Drs Lake, then Fleming Island may be the place for you. I was told at one time Fleming Island was way out there and seemed so far away. I guess at that time, residents of Fleming Island had to drive farther to get to shopping centers. Now, if you worked on the Island, you probably would never need to leave! From Home Depot, to Walmart, to Kohl’s. You probably have about 5 different pizza places, a couple of ice cream parlors and even a movie theater. La Nopalera authentic Mexican restaurant, The Loop, a couple BBQ restaurants, and just way to many to list here. You’re just gonna have to go check it out for yourself.
If you want to get your kids into sports, there is the YMCA, Clay County Soccer Club, which both of my kids have played at and love it. Flag football, plus Fleming Island Athletic Association which includes football, lacrosse and cheerleading.

I came along this site that talks about the history of Fleming Island. A name that will come up frequently is Margaret Fleming. There is a book about her titled Margaret’s Story by Eugenia Price that details her life during the Civil War era. The Flemings lived in a mansion on their 1000 acre Hibernia Plantation, which was a winter resort up until the 1940s, now it’s a subdivision consisting of about 118 homes.
