Living in Jacksonville | Murray Hill Neighborhood
All about Murray Hill
Homes in this neighborhood date back to the late 1800s, but majority are in the 1900s. Hey, there are even some newer homes, like built in 2020. Those tend to be on the same street, due to builders buying a few lots and building new, but it doesn’t take away from the historic view. When you drive through, you will notice that the houses are very quaint and cottage like. Those are bungalow style homes, which are smaller, more cozy homes. Usually with front porches, open floor plans, closer to downtown areas. One story, but could be one story and a half, which has that half story built into the roof line, utilizing what would be attic space. I love these style homes, and I love how Jacksonville offers such a diverse style of homes. Check out my post about Riverside/Avondale area to see the difference.

Things To Do in Murray Hill
There are 4 parks in the Murray Hill area. Two are just little pocket parks with a bench or two, giving people opportunities to just sit and chill. Although, one of the smaller parks does have a playset. The coolest one, in my opinion, is the Murray Hill Four Corners park. It is actually on 4 corners. Hence the name 4 corners. The cross streets are Lawnview St and Lamboll Ave.
The location of Murray Hill is very ideal. If you scroll down, you will see the map, showing the location. Very close to I10 and 17, you can get many places quickly. Want to see a Jags game? Jump on I10. Want to go to a bigger park with trails? Roosevelt south towards NAS Jax, to the Tillie K Fowler Park. Want to drop a boat in the water? Here’s a list of Boat Ramps in Jax.
Shopping in Murray Hill
The bigger shopping centers are in the Normandy area, west of Murray Hill. Also, south on Roosevelt, is the Roosevelt Mall, not an indoor mall. You would need to go south into Orange Park for that. If you head east into Riverside/Avondale, there are some cool stores and more places to eat. Continue towards and past the St Vincent’s Hospital, you’ll travel into 5 Points, which is an eclectic area, with some neat shops to check out, along with the Sun Ray Cinema.
Where to eat in Murray Hill
We can’t forget to mention food! If you’re wanting to get some breakfast, there’s Maple Street Biscuit on Edgewood, close to Roosevelt. That’s at Edgewood Avenue Square, where you’ll find Moon River Pizza, Fishweir Brewing Company, The Flamingo, Stout Snug, Wok N Roll and more! If you drive just about a block or so on Edgewood, you will find Holy Smoke BBQ food truck and it is delicious! Here’s a local website that offers reviews on the various restaurants, and they break them down by areas. It’s called Jacksonville Restaurant Reviews. Here’s the Murray Hill list of places to eat. If you want to see what the locals recommend, check out the The Scoop with Jax Restaurant Reviews.
